Cadence · Last updated June 22, 2026

Cadence Running built the Cadence app to help you train smarter. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the app, how we use it, and the choices you have. Please read it carefully before using Cadence.

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, information generated as you use the app, and data from device sensors and Apple frameworks you grant access to.

  • Health & Fitness data: sleep duration, heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate, and workout records read from Apple HealthKit and written back after each run.
  • Location data: GPS coordinates, route, pace, and elevation recorded during outdoor runs via CoreLocation (when-in-use only).
  • Photo Library: when you share a run card, the exported image is saved to your photo library. We do not read or browse your existing photos.
  • Training and run data: distance, duration, splits, heart rate, workout type, and personal records stored locally and, where applicable, synced to our custom API backend.
  • Usage data: in-app events such as feature taps, screen views, and session lengths collected for analytics purposes.
  • Device identifiers: an advertising identifier or anonymous device ID collected in connection with App Tracking Transparency and analytics.
  • Subscription and purchase information: transaction receipts processed by StoreKit to verify and manage your subscription status.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to operate and improve Cadence. Specific uses include:

  • Generating and adapting your training plan based on your recovery signals (sleep, HRV, resting heart rate).
  • Delivering personalised coaching insights, post-run summaries, and weekly load analysis.
  • Tracking streaks, XP, ranks, achievements, and personal records.
  • Enabling the ghost-pacer feature by referencing your past run data.
  • Verifying subscription status and unlocking premium features via StoreKit receipts.
  • Analysing aggregate, de-identified usage patterns to improve app features and performance.
  • Diagnosing crashes and technical issues to maintain app stability.

Device Permissions And Sensitive Data

Cadence requests the following device permissions. You may revoke any permission at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security.

  • Health (Read & Write): reads recovery metrics from Apple Health and writes completed workouts back. Data is processed on-device and, where synced, sent to our backend over an encrypted connection.
  • Location (When In Use): records your GPS route during an active run. Location is not collected in the background and is not used for advertising.
  • Photo Library (Add Only): saves shareable run cards you choose to export. We do not access, read, or transmit your existing photos.
  • App Tracking Transparency: we request permission before linking your device identifier to analytics or advertising data. You may decline and core app functionality will not be affected.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: our custom API backend processes run and training data to support coaching features. These providers are contractually bound to use your data only as directed by us.
  • Analytics partners: de-identified or aggregated usage data may be shared with analytics services to help us understand how the app is used.
  • Legal requirements: we may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public.
  • Business transfers: if Cadence Running is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any change in ownership or use of your data.

Data Retention

Run history, training plans, and coaching data are stored locally on your device and, where synced, on our backend for as long as you use the app. If you delete the app, locally stored data is removed from your device. To request deletion of any data held on our backend, please contact us using the email below.

Health data accessed from Apple HealthKit is governed by Apple's HealthKit terms and is not stored on our servers beyond what is necessary to generate your coaching outputs.

Your Choices

You have the following controls over your data:

  • Permissions: revoke Health, Location, or Photo Library access at any time in iOS Settings.
  • Tracking: if you decline the App Tracking Transparency prompt, we will not link your identifier to analytics or advertising data.
  • Data deletion: email us at cadencerunningsupport@gmail.com to request deletion of any personal data we hold on our servers.
  • Subscription management: manage or cancel your Cadence subscription at any time via the App Store subscription settings on your device.
